Life drawing Some people have a wonderful touch and eye when it comes to understanding the human form.
Its magical to see lines just flowing out of a pencil and a bit of cross hatching here and there turn into evocative shadows and three dimensional muscles or contours. The bottom line is that it all takes practise and more practise. Fluency in anything comes to all of us that way.
A life drawing class is a marvellous way to get a few tips and then try your hand at understanding what you see before you. The one I like is where you are not allowed to lift the pencil from the paper and not allowed to look down at the paper till your are finished.
Some amazing things can happen when your eyes are exclusively glued to the model and you cant see what your hand is doing!
Picasso said something along the lines of…
Painting and drawing was like making love. The image came in through the eye and went out through the brush. Nice analogy.
