The old convent takes shape Unit 3 (known as Julita) at the old convent is almost complete.
The tradesman have left the building at last!...and will now direct their attention to the remaining 2 units.
The rooms are filled with richness, colour and art, to inspire those life drawing classes, or to simply provide ambience for those quiet contemplative or creative moments.
All units have been given names of former nuns (sisters) of the convent which was known as St Josephs. In order the unit names are: Avelina, Theodore, Julita, Ignatius and Gertrude. These ladies taught school, religious instruction, shorthand and music from 1923. The school continued right up to the late sixties.
This convent also accommodated boarders and we have recently been provided with extensive photographs of some of the original classes and also of the nuns. Thank you Joy Armour.
From these records we have been able to work out some original features of the convent building which will assist with the restoration.
